Soda Ash
Sodium carbonate — high-volume industrial alkali used in oilfield mud chemistry, food alkalinization, glass, and water treatment. Dense and light grades.
Overview
Soda ash — sodium carbonate — is the third most widely produced inorganic chemical in the world, and a foundational building block across multiple industries. Five Rivers Materials supplies both dense and light grades from qualified producers in China and India, with food-grade material available for applications requiring FCC certification.
In oilfield use, soda ash is the standard chemical for removing dissolved calcium from drilling-fluid makeup water and for pH adjustment in water-based muds. In food processing, it serves as an alkalinizer in pretzel and noodle manufacturing, as the alkalization agent in Dutch-process cocoa, and as a pH adjustment chemical across dairy and beverage processing. Industrial applications span glass manufacturing, detergents, pulp and paper, and water treatment.
Technical Specifications
Variants & Forms
Dense Soda Ash
Higher bulk density (~1.0 g/cm³). Standard for glass manufacturing, detergents, and high-volume industrial use. Reduced dust, better flow.
Light Soda Ash
Lower bulk density (~0.5 g/cm³). Preferred where rapid dissolution is needed — water treatment, oilfield mud, food formulations.
